The Lori Drew trial ended about 2 weeks ago with the verdict coming in last week. And not that its a surprise but the California jury got it wrong again. In California no evidence gets a conviction with a stiff jail sentence, a truckload of evidence gets you off all serious charges with the possibility of a slap on the wrist. To refresh everyones memory, Lori Drew is the raggedity old lady that faked a myspace account posing as a teenage boy to hurt Megan Meier a teenage girl(a former friend of Drews daughter Sarah). After weeks of Drew gaining Megans confidence by saying how great and beautiful she was using the teenage boy as an alias sent one final message, writing to Megan Drew said ”the world would be a better place without you” within an hour of opening that message Megan was Dead found by her mother. I’m sure you all remember now.
The verdict came in with Drew getting off on all the felony charges and being convicted on the 3 misdemeanor charges. Which is ridiculous those charges carry a maximum of 1 year per charge and a maximum fine of $100,000 dollars for each charge, totaling an MAX of 3 years and $300,000 dollars. We all know its unlikey she get the max. But there’s a fly in the ointment the judge is reveiwing the verdict and the interpetation of the law and may override the jury verdict and acquit Drew. Insiders say thats highly unlikey because judges don’t like to override jurys. But Drews attorney say they will appeal if she not acquitted.
I really hate to bring up race or gender bias because I think those statements in most cases are excuses to throw the scent off someone thats done something wrong or they are used when things don’t go a persons way. But I’m sorry I must bring it up now. If a Black woman had done this, CONVICTION Period immediately in custody, If a white or black man did this same thing CONVICTION immediately remanded to custody until sentencing.
Another thing that bothers me is that the judge is reviewing the verdict to make sure the laws apply and they are fair to the defendent but he’s not reveiwing to decide whether their should have been convictions on the felony charges. He’s only looking oneway.
You can go to jail in most states in the U.S. for 3 years for having a couple joints(marijuana). Cause the death of a 13 year old and get the same sentence. Just doesn’t seem right. Does it ??
Lori Drew is a waste of skin. If she got 20 years it would still be too easy. Drew words apply but to herself ”the world would be a better place without her” and thats fact because Megan would be alive today.
Will Megan and her family ever get the justice they deserve ?????
