Divided we Fail

This past week there was another huge tax increase. Half the people probably don’t know about it, don’t care, or agree with it. What tax you ask, cigarettes have been taxed again. This time it was a federal tax, it was raised from .39 cents a pack to $1.00 a pack. Most non-smokers are cheering over the tax.

What alarms me is that it’s the same old same old it’s an easy tax because  they are so unpopular. But what people should be worrying about is the excessive taxing of something. Raising a tax is part of life but Americans should be concerned when one product is excessively taxed, because the next thing that’s excessively taxed could be what you or your neighbor wants. By letting the government excessively tax one product it opens the door to continue the practice. What if the government raised taxes on running shoes to $10.00 per pair. Would that be right, cigarette smokers wouldn’t care just as joggers don’t care about the cigarette tax but both groups should. Not for the reasons of the excessive tax because it doesn’t matter what does matter is we should stick together on excessive taxing. There playing us as fools politicians know cigs are unpopular so they know they can get away with whatever they raise the tax to.
This is a big country with a tremendous amount of people there will always be an unpopular product or industry.

What do you think is going to happen to the money raised by the increased cigareete tax ? If the goverment is going to tax something excessiley I think all Americans should see something for that (example-its going to pay for lung screening for all americans or the goverment is going to give a school in the U.S. soccer balls) show us something for the money. But they won’t its the same old business as usual the money will be spent on some pork barrel project. Why is that? Because we let it happen.

We should stick together on excessive taxation or it will haunt us all.
